MLS team 'tried to sign Cristiano Ronaldo' after his explosive exit from Man United - as officials 'believe they were close' to beating Al-Nassr to his signature

An American football club reportedly tried to sign Cristiano Ronaldo after he left Manchester United in 2022.

Ronaldo left United by mutual consent after falling out with Erik ten Hag and a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan in which he lambasted the Dutchman.

The Portuguese star kissed goodbye to £16million as United cut his contract short just four days after his television appearance.

The Athletic have reported how MLS club Sporting Kansas City tried to sign him - with a deeper view of what they were willing to offer him.

Last season he scored 44 goals in 45 games but he is still without a domestic trophy in the Middle East, although he has won the Arab Club Champions Cup.
